Manual for psimpoll and pscomb

Menu

Menu L: age-depth conversion

Menu Lb: top age
The user is prompted for values for an estimated age and then estimated error for the top sample of the sequence. A value for the age of the top sample may be given, but the default (0±50) will cover most purposes, and a value of < -2000 (I suggest using -9999) means that there is no age estimate available (or that a radiocarbon age falls exactly at the top sample). This usage is different from that for the basal age (Lc) for historical reasons: it may change. The allowed range is -10000 to 100,000, with an error between 0 and 2000. If no value is given for the top sample, ages calculated for samples above the uppermost age are obtained by extrapolation.

A value can still be entered here, and will be used, even if calibrated dates are being used (menu Lj). It will always be treated statistically as a normal distribution.
